As we approach November each year we received plentiful questions about whether Darkpalace Studio participates in Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals. Because of that we decided to make this blogpost talking about it and our stance on it.
Early on in our plugin development journey we decided that sales are not the right approach for Darkpalace Studio as they would not reflect our core values. We try our best to find intentionally niche approaches and/or concepts to implement and want to give the community what they deserve, something unique yet reliable.
If we look back our previous experiences with sales, we have observed that while they may bring in a short-time increase in number and revenue, they simply do not align with our philosophy of a fair fixed price and supporting the ideology of “You Buy It, You Own It”.
Unlike other companies that purposely inflate their regular prices just so they can offer their products at a “sale” price to make it seem like a “steal”, it often leaves a sour taste in the mouth of customers finding out that the plugin they bought went on sale for 80% just the week after.
Because of that, offering a fixed price on top with continuous support and updates, we try to lean into the direction of “too good to be true” as we feel that if you buy something, you should have the comfortability and trust that the product will keep working as yuo use it.
Times around Black Friday are actually rather problematic as everyone is “shouting” as loud as possible in an attempt to grab customer attention in an oversaturated market. This leads to peoples inboxes getting spammed with emails weeks, and sometimes even months in advance.
Due to that, standing out from the crowd becomes immensely difficult and requires an insane amount of time and effort, something we would rather invest into the development cycle of our plugins. As time is a finite thing, we want our team to maintain a healthy and sustainable rhythm throughout the year and not feel pressured by sales targets or getting lost in promotional logistics
So instead of participating in traditional sales events, we prefer to focus on what really matters: Providing creative audio plugins, with a modern UI and ongoing free updates and support, which resonates very well with our users and directly provides value.
This year we have already updated our existing plugins multiple times with much more on the roadmap ahead for us. Some of the recent updates include Parameter Smoothing, New Tooltip Styling, Preset Grouping, multiple new themes and many other awesome things.
